Boston Red Sox

GOOOOOOO RED SOX!

So I now consider myself an expert in baseball... well the way to get the hotdog mans attention and how to sing Sweet Caroline at the bottom of the 8th inning!

It is such a cool atmosphere that regardless of not paying close attention to the game and the fact we lost to Miami it was an exciting and memorable experience.

As part of Summer School there are numerous trips you can purchase including tickets to Fenway. It was $35 and we were front row right behind where the Red Sox pitches warm up. It was perfect location. As it was an excursion you picked up your tickets at the activities office and either went as a group on the T or got your own way there. The electric energy on the train, that is way to small for the amount of people that were on it, only made the anticipation heighten.

Part of the experience was definitely the food! There are tons of people walking around yelling out Hotdogs, candy floss, freshly squeezed lemonade, pizza etc etc. I even tried fried dough which was so sweet but delicious (kinda of like a flat doughnut).  And Nancy (above) got peanuts and cracker jacks so that we could hold them while singing "take me out to the ball game" in the 7th inning.

My attempt at artsy photos! These guys were right in front of us warming up- such great seats!

I may not know all the ins and outs of baseball but the experience was great and its a must do if you are in the states for baseball season!

Bikram Yoga- why O why?

Why O Why would anyone put themselves through that everyday voluntarily?

I had great intentions- Liv (from Musical Theatre class) goes everyday and has been convincing me to join her, so today I caved and went. Now I have done Bikram once before in Washington where I pretty much laid on the floor and sweated, yet time has fogged my memories on the actually feeling of this 40 degree heat for 90 minutes. How could I forget the feeling???

I was really excited to go, honestly I was. In my head I was picturing me going everyday getting in touch with myself in this form of hot mediation and leaving the place enlightened and refreshed...instead I left feeling like I was going to pass out!

The first 1/2 hour or so was alright, I was coping with the heat and the poses weren't too difficult- even though I had no idea why we were doing them, are they supposed to stretch you? Anyway, the second half hour things got harder. They wanted you to hold your feet and stretch up ad do scales and all this stuff, but come on im sweating no wait im dripping and you want me to get a good grip on my foot what the heck! The last 1/2 was the killer. It was floor exercises so in some sense you got a break cause you could just lay on your back. These poses were weird again and they do this thing where you rest after every pose by laying on your back, but to get up you are supposed to do a super quick sit up. The instructor was like if you feel a black out feeling just go with it, its good... WTF! I was so thirsty and my water was boiling so at one stage I tried to get up and get water only to be told by the instructor that I really should stay inside the heater for the entire time on my first day to say I did it. While it is nice to say I did it... I was near passing out!

When we finished it was like heaven walking into the air con room, yet this only lasted a few seconds before the shakes and the ear ringing of near fainting came around. Liv and I walked to the bathroom where I was like get me a chair lol. Its such a horrible feeling and I don't get why people would want that feeling. If they had 1hr class I think I could handle it better. The 90 min was just way, way to long.

Im going to see how it effects me over night, it did give me a energy boost about 30min after it when I was I the fresh air, only to drop 30min later when I made it to my room and just wanted to sleep.

I think I will give it one more go- they say it gets better. We shall see :)

Random Study Breaks

There are a few things that I really love about dorm life.

1- Your friends are always so close
2- you can msg them at 10pm and organize to go out quickly
3- Yoghurtland is around the corner!

Its so nice at night when you are studying and then someone msg you and all of a sudden your having a study break in Harvard Square getting up to random things.

Last night Ash came over and was starving so we headed to Yoghurtland (seriously want to open one of these stores!). Deciding on the flavor and toppings is like one of the hardest decisions everytime- like do you go sweet, chocolaty or fruity??? So hard to choose.

David met us there shortly after we had ours and then Sophie and Tori came as well. We were all just sitting there reminiscing about Saturday night when Ash starts cranking Soulja Boy and busting out the moves. Then it turned into classic song battle and we nearly had David rapping which apparently doesn't happen much when he is sober. Just good times...

Sophie, Tori and I did a quick CVS trip and then found Will sneaking off so we yelled out to him and talked for awhile. I found out more stuff about what happened on Saturday night including how he and a few others took our mattress and rode it down the stairs lol! We then all bumped into Harsha who was also on a study break and ended up talking for 30min.

So a quick yoghurtland trip turned into a 2 hr affair- love it!

Summer School Talent Show

Tonight they had the SSP (Secondary School Program) Talent Show. The main reason I decided to go was that it was in Sanders Theatre which is absolutely breathtaking and secondly I know of  amazingly talented people that audition for the talent quest and didn't get in so I wanted to see the competition.

I only stayed for a few acts and they were really talented!

The first boy did a light show by having individual lights on each finger and they like dancing with his hands. It was so trippy! Then there were a few singer/ songwriters and a cello player that were all good. A girl called Natalie Tsvetkova sang an original song and played piano and it was incredible- so talented.

Newberry Street /Quincy Markets

Had the best day in Boston today with two of the funniest people!

Ash, David and I headed into Boston around 10 to go shopping on Newberry Street (where all the designer stores and chain stores are).

What a poser!!! hahaha

We got off at Park Street and decided to walk through the park which was full of people having picnics and playing sport. There were also lots of people on the swan boats in the pond.

Once on Newberry Street we saw all the Chanel, Dior, Tiffany's etc so walked a little way down until we found Victoria Secrets where we said bye to David for an hour! So much fun trying on all the stuff in VS- again I bought a few things :)

We then met David in H&M which again took awhile as its so cheap and so good that I had so many things to try on. In the end I bought 5 dresses, shoes, a bag, a hat, swimmers and it was all $114! Crazy good!

Poor David had to wait awhile, although he was trying stuff on as well. We found this trendy store for him though, and made him try on all these clothes for him to model! He is such a poser!

We then continued down Newberry St looking for somewhere to go for lunch but it was extremely busy and everywhere had a wait of 30min so we just kept walking. We went into other boutique stores and candy stores before finding this cute diner/bookstore called Tridents Book Café. I order a chicken sandwich which was the size of my head!!! Why is everything so big?

Over lunch which had interesting conversation- David and Ash talk about the craziest most random things its awesome, luv it!

David then wanted to buy a Boston Red Sox jersey so we hopped back on the train to go to Quincy Markets. It's the happening place to be on the weekend! SO many people. Basically its just loads of restaurants and food places but it has such a great vibe you cant help but smile! We finally found him a jersey after much modeling on his behalf so everyone was happy.

After nearly 6 hours shopping is was time for home so we got on the slowest train ever and made it back to Kirkland just in time for a nap before Dorm Party! What an incredible day!

Dorm Party

To celebrate before finals week Andrea and I decided to have a Dorm Party...it was epic!

So at Harvard parties are allowed but a 'get together' turns into a party if you have more than 10 people so you have to register a couple of days before with what the party will be and numbers and proctors come and check up on you over the night- its a bit insane but we got approved so it was all good.

The party was awesome- lots of people came over the night... we played beer pong, flip cup (americans are much more active in their drinking games!) and slap cup. The bed without a mattress and with two cupboards upside down made a for a great table! The boys also decided to use the mattress as a slide and pulled it up the stairs to slide down on :)

It was a great night- true American party style!
